Chase Elliott wins at Lanier Speedway

Appropriately enough, the rear bumper of Chase Elliott’s No. 9 Aaron’s Lucky Dog Dream Machine reads, “Nobody beats Aaron’s.” Thirteen-year-old Elliott backed that up Saturday night at Lanier National Speedway (Braselton, Ga.) when he won his first career Late Model race in only seven starts. After running second to his Bill Elliott Racing teammate Casey Roderick for 96 laps, Elliott took the lead and cruised to the win at his “home track” in the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) Super Six 100, just in time to give his mom, Cindy Elliott, the perfect Mother’s Day gift.

So you spend an hour with a family posing for various portraits. The shots turn out nice, but then you have a little moment like this. The father had to calm down the daughter who was starting to get a little restless, and I just happened to capture it.

Pictured is Mark Rebilas, a freelancer who shoots for US Presswire. He had remote cameras placed in a couple of other locations..hence the PW device you see. His team got some amazing shots as you can view on the US Presswire website. In case you are not familiar with his work, check out his blog and website. Chances are you have seen his work many times before.

Fairly certain this is a 600mm with 1.4 converter.

So for my brief moment of fame, Mark now has this image posted in his blog:

So if you are wondering where my image is of the big last lap wreck?  Well you can’t get those if you leave with 10 laps to go.  The race was kind a snoozer and the finish didn’t look too promising.  So I left to beat sitting in hours of traffic.  I got home early, but it was not worth missing that incident in the end.  Only if.
